Introduction

Located on the coast of the South China Sea, Da Nang is Vietnam’s most important port city. It is also the fifth largest city in the country and the largest city in Central Vietnam and is known as the tourist capital of South Central Vietnam and is very popular for its serene beaches with pristine waters, lush national parks, ancient pagodas, and French colonial buildings. Popular Areas in Da Nang

Son Tra, is located on the coast and is on the Son Tra peninsula and is one of the most favored areas. Another coastal option is Ngu Hanh Son, which has many resorts and attracts many tourists making the cost of living in the area to be quite expensive. Other than the coastal areas, Hai Chau is also popular as the area is surrounded by affordable amenities. The May An and An Thuong neighborhood are also popular among expats and it is filled with large buildings, restaurants, and bars. For inexpensive accommodation, many foreigners opt to live in Cam Le district. However, it can be a bit far from the city center. 

Da Nang has some co-working spaces and workable cafes and the most popular one is SpaceA around An Thuong which has an open concept with a coffee shop inside. There is also Urban Square which is a coffee shop which serves strong tasty coffee and delightful food. Another great coffee shop worth considering is the 43 Factory Coffee Shop, located in a stunning building with impressive design, offers good vibes, strong coffee, and a good place to work or meet up with friends.

The city has a wide range of restaurant to choose from. Beachfront cafes, roadside stalls, local joints, and luxurious restaurants are all available. If you want to have a fine-dining experience, La Maison 1888 is the place. It is the first restaurant in Vietnam that hosts a Michelin-starred chef which offers French fine-dining. If your choice is to eat Vietnamese dishes, try Quan Com Hue Ngon that serves Vietnamese BBQ at affordable prices. Although the décor is minimal, the service and the food are amazing. 

Da Nang’s nightlife might not be as active as many big cities, but there are places to go to such as Sky36 Club, located on the 36th floor of Novotel Danang Premier Han River. It is the city highest rooftop bar that offers panoramic views of Da Nang. The Club attracts people looking to party in style. Waterfront Danang Restaurant & Bar is another good place to spend the night, hang out, and meet up with other expats.  

Weather and Climate in Da Nang

Da Nang enjoys a tropical monsoon climate with two seasons. The wet season starts from September and ends in December and It is also a typhoon season. Rainfall is typically high between September and November. The dry season runs from January to August and the annual average temperature is around 26 °C. July and August have the highest temperature, with mean temperatures of 30 °C, while December and February have the lowest temperature. Be aware that Da Nang is prone to typhoons.

Getting Around in Da Nang

Da Nang International Airport is the largest in central Vietnam and the third largest in the country. It is also an important gateway to central Vietnam. The airport serves domestic airlines to many cities in the country and international flights to numerous cities in Asia such as Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Doha. There are budget airlines available to travel around Vietnam such as VietJet Air and Jetstar Pacific.

Unlike many other cities in Vietnam, Da Nang has many convenient transportation modes. Taxis can be found easily everywhere, especially in around hotels, tourist attractions, and malls. The taxis are metered; the base fare is VND 12,000 and VND 15,000 for every kilometer. The most reliable taxi companies are Mai Linh, Vinasun, and Xanh. The quickest and most affordable option is by traveling with motorcycle taxis. There is no official fare, so you need to bargain. A two-kilometer ride usually cost around VND 10,000 to VND 15,000. An online hailing app such as Grab is available, offering an easy and inexpensive way of travel. 

Work Visas in Da Nang

A visa and a work permit are needed to work in Vietnam. The Vietnam Immigration issues three kinds of visa: tourist visa, business visa, and diplomatic and official visa. Once you obtain a visa, you need to apply for a work permit and residential card. It is advisable to check the procedures before applying since the legislation can change regularly. Be aware that Vietnam only allows companies to recruit foreign workers if there is no local who can do the job or meet the requirements.
